Is using Enterprise Manage across the internet secure?

If I am using enterprise manager across the internet to access an SQL Server
, is it secure? Can I make database changes, passwords changes and view con
fidential table data securely. Or do I need to use another mechanism.Enterprise Manager is just an application, it sounds like you are worried
about the data transferred over the wire. If so, you should look into SSL
encryption.

Is this possible

Hi,
Is it possible to hide an instance of SQL Server so that it doesn't show up
when you open Ent Manager or SQL Query Analyser?
Thanks
Using the Server Network Utility, you can check the 'hide server' box under
the network protocol properties.
Hope this helps.

is this a connection problem or am I going bonkers?

I have SQL installed locally, and it has been working fine for some time.
However, today when I went to Enterprise Manager I could see the tree view
but as soon as I selected "Databases" everything froze, Task Manager
reported that the application was not responding. I left it for 10 minutes
and the
screen stayed stuck with the hourglass.
I tried re-starting the SQL service and rebooting the box, but the same
problem occured.
When I try and use Query Analyser, I cannot select a database from the
drop down list, but, I can use the "Use" command to choose a database and I
can
run a query. It is unblievably slow though.
Just tried to create a new ODBC connection and the test failed because of a
timeout.
Does anyone have any clues?
I've posted the log below
thanks

is this a connection problem or am I going bonkers?

I've posted the log below
thanks

is there any way of uploading/deploying rdl files to the reportserver other than report manager

Hi,

is there any way of uploading/deploying rdl files to the reportserver other than report manager in real time

wat happened:-

i had developed reports (rdl files) and we have a setup for the web application

During Implementation

after the application is installed in the web server. we needed to deploy reports & datasources (rdl & rds files) to the report server.

wat we did was - manually upload each rdl file using report manager. and the eventually the datasource which the reports use was uploaded.

but problem here was when i ran the report it did not find/recognize the datasource it wanted although i had uploaded it. and i had to manually set the datasource once again for all the reports. assume there are 50 reports do i need to do it everytime for each report manually?

is there any way all these can be done programmatically ?

Sure it can be done programmatically by SOAP API.

CreateDataSource () to create a data source

CreateReport () to create a report

SetReportDataSources() to bind a report to a data source

|||

thanks for the reply

I am new to .NET technology.

how do i refer or implement SOAP API in my application

by the way ...

CreateReport () to create a report

SetReportDataSources() to bind a report to a data source

.... these above methods are used to create a new report or deploy already designed report to the report server

|||

basically i need a sample which allows me to pick & upload a rdl and rds file to report server.

pls help me out to give me either links or samples

|||

In Visual Studio, add a web reference to the SOAP endpoint for RS. The url is http://<servername>/ReportService/ReportService2005.asmx.

Once you have done that, your project in VS should be able to use the RS SOAP APIs. In your case, what you will have to do is open the .RDL file, and pass the contents of that file to CreateReport().

This sample on MSDN should give you enough information:

IS THERE ANY TOOL

Is there any tool like Enterprise Manager to help me create databases , tables ... with MSDE?
If there isn't how can i create these objects?
Perhaps using OSQL Command?
Thank you

Is there an option of adding style sheet for the report

Can I set the default style of my report like we do thecss in web development
I don't want to edit the style of the report manager .What I want is to edit
the report style. [mean the rendering style of the actual report]
Suppose I have to set borderwidth of table =.25pt
bordercolor of table, all of it's cell to silver.
Borderstyle to be windowsinset.
Backgroundcolor of the full layout to be black
How Can I do that ?All these settings can be done using the properties of table, page etc.. from
your VS itself.

on the template folder, so whenever you go for creating a new report you can
select this to make it standard. This is the way you can achieve your
standardization.

But according to this blog post, there's a hotfix available to make use of
style sheets:

-Not sure if this also applies to RS 2005, but you can probably check if the
syntax that the post author describes can be used in RS 2005.
I haven't tried this method, I've just created a template and worked
manually from there. Hopefully it will help you, though. :)
